E' iniziata stamattina sotto la neve alle 9.30 locali (le 10.30 in Italia) la staffetta della Fiamma Olimpica a Londra. Una tempesta di neve imprevista ha costretto alla chiusura temporanea due piste dell'areoporto di Heathrow, ma il tutto non ha turbato la corsa della torcia, ora alla quarta tappa.

La cerimonia è iniziata poco dopo le 10.30 ora locale allo stadio di Wembley, sotto una fitta neve.

Il primo degli 80 tedofori è stato il canottiere Steve Redgrave, vincitore di cinque medaglie (d'oro) olimpiche. I tedofori hanno corso per le strade londinesi, a piedi, in bicicletta, in barca e in autobus, per otto ore, alternandosi in un percorso di circa 50 chilometri sino a Greenwich. Il premier Gordon Brown ha atteso la Fiamma davanti alla sua residenza, storico numero 10 di Downing Street.
