Staffetta blindatissima per la fiaccola olimpica giunta a Islamabad. la tappa pakistana non ha nemmeno avuto come teatro la capitale Islamabad ma soltanto il principale impianto sportivo della citta', lo stadio 'Jinnah' , dove 66 tedofori hanno percorso un paio di chilometri senza pubblico. Per evitare disordini, il governo pakistano infatti ha deciso di non far svolgere per le strade della capitale la tradizionale staffetta, ed ha chiuso la manifestazione al pubblico, riservando gli inviti solo ad autorità e media.
E' stato il presidente Pervez Musharraf, insieme al primo ministro Yousuf Raza Gillani, a consegnare la torcia al primo tedoforo, l'ex capitano della nazionale di hockey, Samiullah Khan. Dopo aver fatto il suo giro nello stadio, Khan ha passato la fiaccola a Shabana Akhtar, la prima atleta donna ad aver rappresentato il Pakistan alle Olimpiadi.
Erano anni, dal 1984, che non si svolgeva una staffetta della fiaccola olimpica senza pubblico.
Poi la fiaccola è ripartita nuovamente, per giungere in India, a Nuova Delhi (nella foto), dove oggi ha superato indenne anche la decima tappa. 84 minuti ci hanno messo i 40 tedofori per completare un percorso di due chilometri e trecento metri, ridotto dai 9 chilometri iniziali. Completamente isolati dal resto della città.
La torcia è atterrata ieri notte, verso le due, in uno scalo secondario di Delhi, accolta dal capo della Federazione olimpica indiana, Suresh Kalmadi ed è stata subito trasferita, sotto una nutrita scorta, all'hotel Meridien. Da qui è uscita solo nel pomeriggio.
